People Are Our Passion

As we shared a few weeks ago, Jesus is our pursuit; well we believe that if Jesus is our pursuit, then people have to be our passion. Why? Because people are important to Jesus. Jesus pursued people, Jesus ministered to people, Jesus healed people, Jesus LOVED people! And we at Steps Church seek to be like Jesus. Jesus is our example. We should always be comparing ourselves to Him. He is the perfect model for our lives. You see, when Jesus is our primary focus, He will show us daily how to be passionate about loving people. It may be as simple as smiling at someone you pass in the grocery store or shopping mall. God knows the needs of His people and because He knows us, He is able to speak to our heart and say “Hey, do you see that young man over there? He’s hurting, would you minister My love to him with a smile and a kind word, would you buy his groceries or his lunch today? Would you invite him to church?”

In Matthew 9:36, the Bible tells us that,

“When Jesus saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”

Jesus had such a heart for people
Jesus loved people
Jesus made people His passion

Numbers 27:16-17 says “May the Lord, the God who gives breath to all living things, appoint someoneover this community to go out and come in before them, one who will lead them out and bring them in, so the Lord’s people will not be like a sheep without a shepherd.”

If I may take this liberty, I would like to substitute “Steps Church” for “someone” in that verse, so that it reads…

“Steps Church over this community”

WE are the “someone”

So, my challenge to you today is, will you listen to the Holy Spirit as He leads you to make people your passion? Will you allow the Holy Spirit to call you out of your comfort zone? Is it scary? Heck yeah, it’s scary, but friends, let me tell you, it’s the most exhilarating feeling you will ever know!

Taking those steps,
Donna Kiessling (Dream Team Volunteer)
