Jesus Is Our Pursuit

Jesus is our pursuit. Jesus—is what this whole thing is about. He is the reason we are here and He is the reason that Steps Church is here. Steps Church fulfills a vision Dustin had of starting a church, but even more it fulfills God’s call for us to go out and build His church. The capital C church as Dustin likes to call it. We are all going after one mission. A mission to glorify God’s kingdom and bring people to know Jesus. But here’s the thing. We don’t just want people to know Jesus. A lot of people would say they know Jesus; we want people to experience Jesus, to encounter His presence, and THAT is why Jesus is our pursuit.

This church was not created to be another place where we raise up mediocre Christians. Steps Church is a place where people can experience the presence of Jesus like never before and from there learn how to pursue Him whole-heartedly, not half-heartedly. But unfortunately, the church has been more about pursing religion than pursuing Jesus. Religion creates division, but Jesus creates unity. When we start pursuing religion we lose sight of what’s truly important. We become more focused on personal preference, which is where division sets in, and less focused on Jesus. But if we push ourselves to pursue Jesus we begin to become focused on being ONE body of believers going after ONE goal.

“There is ONE body and ONE Spirit – just as you were called to the ONE hope that belongs to your call – ONE Lord, ONE faith, ONE baptism, ONE God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” Eph. 4:4 (ESV)

But here I am saying all of this and if I’m being honest, pursuing Jesus like we should is not always easy. Not because we don’t want to but because this thing called life gets in the way. All of a sudden, we have to get to work, we have to get the kids to school, we have to get dinner made and laundry done, and we are being pulled in every direction and leaving time for Jesus pursuit just seems to fall through the cracks, and I am so very guilty of this. But it is no excuse. Why? Because the enemy is not taking a break and he is oh so happy when we let it slip by. So let’s decide today to be Jesus pursuing people. Let’s be a people who go after Jesus as ONE body of believers, serving ONE God, with ONE mission in mind.
